Eco-friendly thermowood

The proposed wood is cut from PEFC™ certified forest and heat treated in Finland using the most advanced technology. Thermal treated wood is certified and has got KOMO quality certificate. Modern profiles for decks and facades with invisible fastening system are offered. Choose quality – choose leaders! Heat treated wood have a “warm spirit”, is non-toxic, environmentally friendly and recyclable product.

There are two main categories of heat treatment called Thermo-S (Stability) and Thermo-D (Durability). The products are manufactured using the most advanced technology and state-of-the-art equipment and meet all the requirements of the aforementioned sorting system.

Thermowood resistance

The different types of wood are divided into 5 classifications according to their resistance category. Thermowood belongs to categories 1, 2 and 3, Thermo-S class belongs to rot resistance category 3 as defined in EN 113 standards. And the Thermo-D class belongs to the rot resistance categories 1 and 2, which means that this wood has excellent rot resistance. And there are the same categories as Teak, Oak, Mahogany, Great Sequoia or Red Canadian Cedar.

1 – Very durable 2 – Durable 3 – Partially durable 4 – Low durable 5 – Not durable
Teak Red cedar Siberian larch Radiata pine Alder
Iroko Merbau Douglas fir South pine Ash
Balau European oak Redwood European fir Birch
Thermo ash Thermo pine / spruce Thermo aspen

Due to its extremely durable properties, thermowood also has its own color, which is very similar to the exotic wood. Depending on the heat treatment method used, the color of the wood may vary from light brown to dark tones. After heat treatment the properties of wood changes:

  • The average moisture content is reduced by 10 to 15 percent
  • Moisture absorption is reduced by 30 to 90 percent
  • The thermal resistance improves by 0 – 30 percent
  • The color of the wood becomes darker
  • The wood becomes lighter
  • Wood strength increases
  • Improved rot resistance and weather resistance
  • Reduces the risk of lumber being mold
  • Resins are removed
  • Reduces the likelihood that wood will crack or deform.

Thermowood is more expensive than spruce or pine wood, but has a huge advantage, i.e. high quality that needs minimal maintenance. For aesthetic reasons, we recommend simple maintenance with coat every 5 to 7 years for decking boards and every 10 to 15 years for facade siding. Thermowood is also so durable that it can be used without any surface treatment. In this way, the ultraviolet rays of the sun will provide an elegant shade of gray.
